South Street Seaport has been transformed into a commercial money maker, while only hanging on to its roots by housing retail period buildings. The project wishes to re-connect the locals with the water that once was so important to the functioning and thriving of the area. Since the renovation of the port, a disconnection has occurred between what the port once really stood for, and its current purpose. This disassociation is not just the redevelopments fault. Our treatment of the harbour and its less-than-par health discourages the public's interaction. Therefore, the project hopes to simultaneously join the clean-up effort of the New York Harbour, while re-fostering the relationship the public once had with this ever-present element.
