SMITHSONIAN ARTS AND INDUSTRIES BUILDING FUTURES EXHIBITION

Lab at Rockwell Group - 2017 - New York, NY
Opened 2021
Client: Smithsonian Institution
Role: design, strategy, 3d modeling, rendering

The Smithsonian Arts and Industries Building has laid dormant for decades, but its rich history and incredible architecture has it destined to house a groundbreaking new method of exhibition by The Smithsonian Institution. With all of their other museums looking to the past, they asked the LAB to think about a rotating exhibit about the future that would manifest itself in the unique setting of the AIB. We proposed an expandable kit-of-parts to house a variety of scales of works and ways in which graphics could be incorporated. We strategized how quarterly, different wings of the building could cover specific topics, leading up to a annual "worlds fair" style retrospective.

The exhibition launched in the AIB in honor of the Smithsonian’s 175th anniversary.
